Overview & Objectives:

At the end of this one-day clinic, the students will have a high-level understanding of the feature areas and technologies new to Windows Server 2003 R2. High-level demos will provide practical insight on common scenarios.

Module 1: Introduction to Windows Server 2003 R2
In this session, students will be able to describe the features and technologies that are new to Windows Server 2003 in the R2 release.

Who Should Attend:

The primary audience for this clinic is enterprise-level IT Professionals and a secondary audience of mid-market-level IT Professionals with the following experience. Product or technology experience includes 1-2 years of experience using Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2003 R2 SP1; for example, a familiarity with installing, deploying, configuring, managing, and supporting Windows Server 2003 for a group or division with 50 people or fewer in an organization of more than 1000 people.

Prerequisites:

To get the most out of this clinic, participants should meet the following prerequisites:

Experience in:
• Managing users, roles, computers, and groups; for example, identify and modify the scope of a group and manage group membership.
• Using the Windows Explorer interface to locate, create, and manipulate folders and files.
• Managing and maintaining a Windows Server 2003 server environment; for example, managing a server by means of Remote Assistance.
• Using the Windows interface to configure the desktop environment.
• Implementing, managing and maintaining network security; implementing or changing privileges.

A general knowledge of:
• Computer hardware components such as memory, hard disk drives, and central processing units.
• Networking concepts such as network operating systems, server-client relationships, and local area networks (LAN); and understanding the basics of networking in a Windows Server 2003 environment.

Be able to:
• Describe the core features of the Windows Server 2003 operating system.
• Identify the tools used to perform common administrative tasks.
