This one-day instructor-led course provides in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience implementing Failover Cluster technologies in Windows Server 2008 and how to configure a Two-Node Failover Cluster.
After completing this course, students will be able to:
• Describe a Failover Cluster and its benefits • Describe the changes/improvements made to clustering in Windows Server 2008 • Explain how cluster improvements in Windows Server 2008 reduce complexity • Explain how improvements in Windows Server 2008 reduce support costs and implementation times • Explain how new functionality in Windows Server 2008 allows implementation in a geographically dispersed environment • Identify the hardware, software, account, and infrastructure requirements necessary to successfully implement a Failover Cluster • Identify the steps involved in installing a Failover Cluster • Describe how to configure a Failover Cluster
• Configure the Windows iSCSI target software • Configure failover clustering • Use the Cluster command-line tool
Module 1: First Look Clinic Outline After completing this module, students will be able to: • Describe a Failover Cluster and its benefits • Describe the changes/improvements made to clustering in Windows Server 2008 • Explain how cluster improvements in Windows Server 2008 reduce complexity • Explain how improvements in Windows Server 2008 reduce support costs and implementation times • Explain how new functionality in Windows Server 2008 allows implementation in a geographically dispersed environment • Identify the hardware, software, account, and infrastructure requirements necessary to successfully implement a Failover Cluster • Identify the steps involved in installing a Failover Cluster • Describe how to configure a Failover Cluster
Exercise 1: Configuring the iSCSI Target Software and iSCSI Initiator to Create an iSCSI SAN After completing this module, students will be able to: • Create iSCSI targets • Assign storage devices to an iSCSI target • Configure the iSCSI initiator on a cluster node
Exercise 2: Creating a Windows Failover Cluster After completing this module, students will be able to: • Verify the Failover Clustering feature is installed • Validate a cluster configuration • Create a failover cluster • Create a file server cluster
Exercise 3: Testing the Failover Cluster After completing this module, students will be able to: • Verify file server cluster connectivity • Verify manual failover of a cluster • Verify automatic failover of a cluster
Exercise 4: Using the Cluster.exe tool After completing this module, students will be able to: • Perform a manual failover of a cluster resource
