CISCO – Changes To ICND1 & ICND2
In typical Cisco tradition, after consulting the industry and taking into account current and future trend in IT networking, Cisco has updated its famous CCNA (R&S) curriculum. The changes are made to both ICND1 and ICND2 curricula and labelled as v3.0.
Here is what has changed:
From the ICND1 (v2.0) the following has been removed
- OSPFv2 and OSPFv3
- Extended ACLs
For the ICND1 (v3.0), the following has been added
- RIPv2
- Syslog (moved here from ICND2)
- IOS Management (moved from ICND2)
- IOS Licensing (moved from ICND2)
- Larger IPv6 foundation section, but removed IPv6 routing – only has static and default IPv6 routing
From the ICND2 (v2.0) the following has been removed
- IOS Management
- Syslog
- IOS Management
- GLBP and VRRP
- Frame Relay
- NetFlow
- IOS Licensing
For the ICND2 (v3.0), the following has been added
- SPAN
- Extended ACLs
- MLP
- PPPoE
- QoS
- OSPFv2 OSPFv3 Single and Multi-area
- EBGP
- External authentication (RADIUS/TACACS)
- Switching Stacking and chassis aggregation benefits.
- Some security features are also present 802.1x, DHCP snooping, non default native VLAN.
- SDN and Cloud Computing API
- APIC-EM
- Intelligent WAN
Important Facts to be aware:
- These changes are in CCNA(R&S) only. CCNA(Security), CCNA(Wireless), CCNA(Data Centre) and CCNA(Collaboration) are not affected by changes directly however since ICND1 is a prerequisite to every flavour of CCNA, anyone interested in these CCNA, need to first pass ICND1 v3.0 the new version since after 20th Auguest 2016 ICND1 v2.0 related exam will not be available.
